BROCKVILLE — Trustees with the Upper Canada District School Board (UCDSB) met on Wednesday, January 9, to discuss several agenda items.
Renewal of Association Memberships: Trustees voted to renew the Board’s memberships with the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association (OPSBA) and the Ontario Student Trustees’ Association (OSTA) for the 2019-2020 school year.
OPSBA is an advocacy group that represents the interests of public school boards across Ontario. Through input from its members, the association provides the Ontario Ministry of Education with advice on legislation and the impact of government policy directions.
OSTA represents the interests of more than 2 million Ontario students. The association advises the Ministry of Education on policy, collaborates with other stakeholders to address issues around education, and works to unite student trustees across the province.
Trustee David McDonald is the Board’s representative on OPSBA, whereas Student Trustee Bushra Khadra represents the Board on OSTA.
Board Changes Date of Annual Planning Session: Trustees voted to change the date of the 2019 Trustee Planning Session. The February session will be rescheduled until a future date before May 2019. The extension will allow a working committee to properly plan for the session. The session allows trustees to discuss various issues such as planning for the budget and aspects of their annual work plan.
New Date for Next Board Meeting: Trustees will hold their next Board meeting on January 30 rather than January 23. The date change was approved to allow Trustees travel time to attend the 2019 Public Education Symposium, hosted by the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association. The conference runs from January 24 to 26 in Toronto.
