Ice crystals form rainbow around sun

OTTAWA — Today’s cold, clear winter weather produced a morning spectacle as the sun rose above Ottawa.

Bill Harbers of Morrisburg captured the image (above). An amateur astronomer, he says the rainbow effect is caused by ice crystals reflecting the light of the sun.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has forecast a high of -13 C today, plunging to a low of -22 C this evening.
