Some local businesses close doors for the day

EASTERN ONTARIO — Some local businesses report closing their doors for the day as the region digs out from a thick blanket of snow that continues to fall.

The conditions have also produced the third consecutive day of cancelled school buses (although schools remain open) this week (a rare milestone). The authorities had also cancelled the bus runs on Monday and Tuesday because of bitter cold.

Mercifully, the mercury rose yesterday afternoon, leading up to  last night’s dump of snow in milder conditions. Environment Canada is calling for freezing rain around 4 p.m. today.

It’s the fifth day of cancelled school buses during the 2018-19 school year so far.
