Local parent urges UCDSB to include a trans policy protection for staff and students

To the members of the Upper Canada District School Board,

I am writing to you today as a parent/taxpayer to encourage you to pass a resolution to include a trans policy protection for students and staff. This is an important step in making sure all students and valued employees are receiving the most equitable education and work environment as possible. Transgender individuals are at a heightened risk of discrimination, and policy structures help reduce this risk. This vulnerable group needs to have a clearly outlined inclusion policy to keep our schools safe and accessible to all.

Sincerely,

Holly Brown

Editor’s note:

The parent wrote this pre-emptively in hopes of beginning a discussion about these issues at the upcoming UCDSB Board of Trustees Meeting on Equity this Wednesday, Feb. 13. She encourages all concerned staff and parents to attend and have their voices heard.
