North Dundas Rockets

The North Dundas wrapped up the 2018-2019 National Capital Junior Hockey League regular season winning three out of four games last weekend.  Friday, Feb. 15 they beat the Metcalfe Jets 5 to 3; Sunday February 17 with a 7 to 1 win over the West Carleton Inferno before getting thumped by there 1st round playoff opponent the St Isidore Eagles 7 to 2 on Monday February 18th.  The third win of the week was a 1 to 0 win over the West Carleton Inferno on Tuesday, February 19 after being notified that the Inferno couldn’t ice a time for their final regular season game of the year.

At 21-13-1 the Rockets hold the 5th seed in the NCJHL well finishing behind the South Grenville Rangers in 2nd place of the West Division and are set to face off against the 4th seed St Isidore Eagle in round one of the NCJHL playoffs.  The Eagles were ousted by the Rockets on route to the finals last season in what was a physical, entertaining and grueling playoff series of which hostilities remain between players who were involved last season.  The Schedule shapes up like this:

Game 1 – Friday, February 22, 2019 @ St-Isidore Recreation Centre 8:15 p.m. (won 4-3 by the Rockets)

Game 2 – Saturday, February 23, 2019 @ Chesterville Arena 8:00 p.m.

Game 3 – Sunday, February 24, 2019 @ St-Isidore Recreation Centre 7:30 p.m.

Game 4 – Thursday, February 28, 2019 @ St-Isidore Recreation Centre 8:15 p.m.

Game 5 – Friday, March 1, 2019 @ Chesterville Arena 8:00 p.m.

Game 6 – Saturday, March 2, 2019 @ Chesterville Arena 1:15 p.m.
*if necessary

Game 7 – Sunday, March 3, 2019 @ St-Isidore Recreation Centre 7:30 p.m.
*if necessary

Due to ice time scheduling constraints the Rockets will play the first three out of four games on the road in the series.

As General Manager I wouldn’t be telling the truth if I said I wasn’t disappointed in the where our team finished this season in the standings, the expectations were much higher on our end.  Unfortunately; if there was a formula that guaranteed success then everyone would use it.  A combination of injuries, commitment, work and school has all come into play over the season, but we are hoping with the playoffs starting that this club should be in good shape to compete and make another run this year.

With a roster that boasts nine players who have junior A experience and a core that was present for last years run; there is no reason to believe that this team can’t rise to the occasion and compete for a championship; the ultimate question will be, how much do they want it?  and how much are the guys on this team willing to sacrifice to achieve success as a group.  Over the course of the season our individual bad habits have been destructive at times; it’s almost like we have too much talent.  The organization is hoping these young men can come together starting this Friday night in St-Isidore.  As the GM of this team I BELIEVE THEY CAN!

The organization would also like to thank all those who have come out to support us at the rinks throughout the season and our sponsors who are the reason this team is an operational success.

I would also like to thank Lee Bowers and Brandon Cousineau from the Township who have really helped us work out a difficult ice schedule with their tremendous willingness to help.

The First playoff home game will be Saturday night February 23, 2019 at 7:30pm in Chesterville, beverages, gossip and some good local hockey entertainment is on the agenda.

See you at the rink!
