CORNWALL — The Cornwall Innovation Centre is pleased to announce that Eric Bergeron, a local entrepreneur has been named as its new Executive Director.
Having started 8 companies in his lifetime, Mr. Bergeron brings a wealth of experience and is well positioned to support the Innovation Centre in its plans to grow, become self-sustainable and provide more value-add to the companies it serves. Most recently, Mr. Bergeron, was the co-founder of ZipGrow, Modular Farms and Smart Greens, three companies in the AgTech field, which he recently sold.
The Cornwall Innovation Centre is revamping its brand, its mission and its mandate to better include the surrounding areas of SDG and Akwesasne in order to help attract more innovative companies and people to the region.
“My first priority is building out a new business plan for the Innovation Centre itself. We must distinguish ourselves from other incubators and innovation hubs in order to attract the type of talent this region needs.” Said Mr. Bergeron. “We have an opportunity in front of us to launch companies that can create a real impact on the economy. I will be working with the Board of Directors to ensure our centre develops and launches businesses successfully in the coming months.”
The Cornwall Innovation Centre is currently running the Ontario Emerging Jobs Institute (OEJI) as a pilot project through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities of Ontario which has the goal of creating a permanent emerging jobs institute in Cornwall. There are currently roughly 100 students enrolled in 4 different learning streams at Nav Can’s facilities; Business Skills, Digital Skills, Blended Learning and Agtech.
Board Chair Lesley Thompson from the Community Futures Development Corporation stated, “We are excited to have an entrepreneur and community-minded individual like Eric ready to take the lead. We fully intend to grow the centre into a regional innovation-hub, and we believe Eric’s experience will help us get there.”
