SOUTH DUNDAS — A 20-year-old South Dundas man faces impaired driving and other charges following a traffic violation that drew the attention of an SD&G OPP officer, who also observed the involved vehicle “travelling at excessive speeds and operating in an unsafe manner.”
The detachment reports the incident unfolded shortly after 10:45 p.m. on April 4.
Once pulled over, the vehicle was impounded and the motorist’s licence seized for seven days. Further investigation revealed him to be under the influence of alcohol.
The SD&G OPP say they arrested Koltin Merkley, 20, of South Dundas. In addition to impaired driving charges, Merkley is accused of Stunt Driving, driving with an open container of liquor, and being a young driver with a blood-alcohol content above zero.
He was released to appear April 25 in Cornwall court.
Impaired charges in North Dundas
NORTH DUNDAS — A 24-year-old North Dundas man faces impaired driving and other charges following a County Rd. 31 traffic complaint in North Dundas.
An SD&G OPP officer attempted to stop the involved vehicle shortly after 10 p.m. on April 5. Once pulled over, the motorist was found to be under the influence of alcohol, according to the detachment, which reports arresting Kyle Gaw, 24, of North Dundas. In addition to impaired driving charges, he’s accused of failing to comply with the conditions of a probation order and driving with cannabis readily available.
The accused was released to appear May 7 in Morrisburg court.
Impaired in South Stormont
SOUTH STORMONT — A 41-year-old Cornwall woman faces impaired driving charges after police stopped her for a traffic violation on Highway 401.
The involved vehicle was pulled over April 6 shortly before 10:50 a.m. on a section of the highway running through South Stormont. The driver was found to be under the influence of alcohol.
The SD&G OPP report the arrest of Tammy Alguire, 41, of Cornwall.
She was released to appear May 7 in Cornwall court.
North Dundas man arrested for breaching probation
NORTH DUNDAS —SD&G OPP officers with the community street crime unit “conducted an investigation that resulted in a male breaching his previous release conditions,” the detachment reports.
They arrested 33-year-old Anthony Levere, 33, of North Dundas, as a result of their April 5 investigation occurring shortly before 4:45 p.m.
Levere is charged with failing to comply with conditions of a probation order plus two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a recognizance, according to the detachment.
The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in Cornwall court.
SDG — OPP officers intercepted several vehicles for travelling at excessive speeds during the first week of April. The involved motorists’ vehicles were immediately impounded and their drivers’ permits seized for seven days, under the terms of Ontario’s Stunt Driving provisions that kick in if speeding 50 km/h or more above the posted limit. They also face fines if convicted in court.
