Kemptville’s 5th annual Shop Local Showcase runs this Saturday, April 27

KEMPTVILLE — Inspired by the movement to buy goods close to home, 80 vendors will gather on the arena floor at the North Grenville Municipal Centre for the 5th annual Shop Local Showcase this Saturday, April 27.

Admission and parking are free at the event, which runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Attendees have a chance to win a $1,000 Nest Smart Home Grand Prize purchased at Kemptville Building Centre/Rona, sponsored by Allister Brown of Patterson Hadden Brown Insurance.

New this year is the offer of a Tri-County Grand Prize sponsored by O’Farrell Financial, in connection with all three local trade shows happening that day in the region. Pick up an O’Farrell passport and have it stamped at the company’s booths in the Kemptville Shop Local Showcase, the third annual Local Business Expo 2019 at the Winchester Arena, and the 2019 Spring Home & Trade Show at the Morrisburg Arena (also happening this Friday night in Morrisburg’s case).  A postcard stamped at all three locations can be entered into O’Farrell’s draw for the Tri-County prize that includes a flat screen TV, sound bar and two Ottawa Senators VIP tickets.

Pick up your O’Farrell ‘passport’ or ‘postcard’ and have it stamped at all three local trade shows for a chance to win the Tri-County Prize.

Many participating vendors will offer samples and sales of their products — along with free wine, beer and food samples courtesy of Catered Affairs. Also sampling this year’s favourite vintages and brews will be Windmill Brewery, Blue Gypsy Wines and Green Gable Vines.

The Municipality of North Grenville, in partnership with the South Nation Conservation Authority, has free trees to give away to the first 500 families. And Fat Les’s Chip Stand Canteen will have free coffee/tea and their delicious full service menu available for purchases throughout the day.

A demonstration area will feature live local dance and fitness clubs — Get Cronk’d, Precision Cheer, Dance and Gymnastics, The Academy of Expressive Dance, The Workshop Dance Studio, J-Glow and Anytime Fitness.

Show organizers have also partnered with the Kemptville Farmers Market, with many of their regular marketplace vendors setting up on the show floor.

For the younger set, the municipality will run a Kidszone area — with a colouring contest for a free week of camp this summer.

Come and meet the Kemptville 73’s Junior A Hockey Team. Head coach Scott Dexter and co-owner Joe Jefferies will be in attendance, along with favourite players throughout the day. Team members will offer autographs and the chance to win some Kemptville 73’s swag and tickets for next season.

Does your family have a fire plan? Learn how to make one from the Kemptville Fire Department’s Shannon Armitage, who will be on hand again this year with the “Safe House” display.  Sparky the Fire Dog will visit the show, too.

Organizers say that last year’s attendance exceeded 2,200 people. Learn more about Shop Local showcase on their website, Facebook, Twitter @shoplocalkville and Instagram.
