Fill-a-Bag food drive picks up this Saturday, May 11, for Community Food Share

Team Williamsburg was one of 30 hard-working teams that participated in Community Food Share's 2nd Annual Fill-a-Bag Food Drive in 2017. Together they collected two truck-loads of food from generous residents in their community.

DUNDAS AND STORMONT COUNTIES — Over 5,000 empty grocery bags were distributed to homes in Dundas and Stormont counties last week, and Community Food Share hopes many are full when retrieved this Saturday, May 11.

Entering its fourth year, the Fill-a-Bag food drive collected over 18,000 pounds of non-perishable food in 2018. A similar response in 2019 “will keep us well stocked into September, other than the perishable items we have to purchase,” says Community Food Share Executive Director Ian McKelvie.

Thirty-five teams of volunteers have delivered the bags to doorsteps in Winchester, Chesterville, Morewood, Finch, Ingleside, South Mountain, Williamsburg, Morrisburg and Iroquois. Starting at 1 p.m., those same teams will return to collect the donations.
