77-year-old Ottawa man charged after caught viewing child pornography at the Ottawa Public Library, twice

OTTAWA — A member of the public reported to the Ottawa Public Library (OPL) staff that a male was apparently viewing child pornography on Friday, May 31. The male had left by the time police arrived.

The same male was observed at the OPL again viewing apparent child pornography on Tuesday June 4. Police were then able to locate the male and confirm that the images being viewed met the Criminal Code definition of child pornography.

Rene Deschamps, 77, of Ottawa, is charged with accessing child pornography contrary to s. 163.1(4.1) of the Criminal Code.

He will appear at show cause court on Wednesday, June 5.
