SOUTH STORMONT — Police are still looking for a scuba diver who went missing three days ago in the St. Lawrence River off South Stormont Township — an effort now left in the hands of the OPP’s experts in the recovery of bodies.
The missing individual was diving near Lock 21 on MacDonell Island but failed to return to shore with their diving partner around 9 a.m. on June 11.
SD&G OPP officers initiated a search — triggering assistance from the SD&G OPP Marine Unit, South Stormont Fire Services, a pair of boats from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the United States Customs and Border Protection, and the Canadian Coast Guard and the Joint Rescue Coordination Center from CFB Trenton with its helicopter.
At this point, the search involves the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the local detachment’s Marine Unit.
The SD&G OPP still request that the public avoid the area.
