‘Welcome to Russell’ signs design revealed

RUSSELL — After consultation with the residents of the Village of Russell and the Township Council, the final design of the two new “Welcome to Russell” signs have been finalized. The new signs, to be located on Craig St., and Castor St. (by the walking/bike path crossing) will depict the Russell dam site, the Castor River, an agriculture scene and lifestyle in Russell (residents on the walking/bike path). It will also incorporate Russell brick and a Russell brick campaign to collect left over/extra Russell brick from residents will be launched in the fall. The signs shape and size match exactly those in Embrun.

Welcome to Russell signs chairmen, Ash Babber and David Picard, were ecstatic with the final version following extensive input from the community. “We’re so pleased that the final version represents the wishes of the majority of those surveyed,” said Babber. Picard agreed with the sentiment, “Initially the Kin Club of Russell wrestled with what should be incorporated on the signs until we agreed they weren’t our signs … they are the community’s signs for decades to come.”

The Kin Club will immediately launch it’s fundraising efforts to help pay for the signs, estimated around $80,000 for the pair.
