Ottawa soccer coach charged with multiple sex offences

OTTAWA — Today, July 5, the Sexual Assault and Child Abuse Section charged an Ottawa soccer coach with sexual offences.

On April 25, a historical investigation into allegations of sexual assault began after a 17-year-old female reported that her soccer coach had sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions in 2014.

James (Jimmy) Zito, 38, of Ottawa has been charged two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual exploitation. He is scheduled to attend court today.

Zito is a well known soccer coach, having coached numerous teams in the Ottawa Community.

Investigators believe that there may be other victims and are asking them to contact police.
