AVONMORE — The 159th Avonmore Fair returns July 19-21 with a full weekend of fun and excitement on the schedule.

The Annual Barn Dance with Ambush starts things off Friday night with a bang of country and rock music set to a spectacular stage of lights and visuals!

The pay-one price-gate admission of $15 on Saturday and Sunday allows full access to kids to the new inflatable midway. Children 5 and under are granted free admission. A weekend pass is available in advance online at www.avonmorefair.ca.

In keeping with the event’s long agricultural tradition,  organizers promise the opportunity to see many animals during the fair. The huge 4-H dairy calf rally will run all day Saturday, and the 4-H beef show will be Sunday. Western horse shows will be in the sand ring on Saturday, and the Capital Cowgirls horse drill team will perform Sunday. 4-H will also put on a display of poultry and heritage breeds.

Beyond farm animals, Sopher Creek Animal Rescue will display a variety of animals not usually seen up close; the Rescue’s presentation times are set to occur all weekend.

The Exhibition Hall will be filled again with arts, crafts, food and field crops. Entries will be accepted Friday morning followed by judging. (Prospective competitors will find more information on the fair website.)

Check out the high-flying entertainment outside all weekend with the CrazECrew BMX and Inline Skating Stunt Show. Performed with ramps and a half-pipe, these performers will keep pulses racing at the fairgrounds with a variety of amazing, precision stunts and a train of backflips.

Fierce (but family-friendly) Canadian Championship Wrestling returns on Saturday evening as an annual fan favourite in Avonmore. Athletes from Canada and the U.S. will thrill the crowd and engage all to cheer for their heroes and boisterously  boo the villains in the ring!

For music lovers, the Superstructure Stage will host a number of musical entertainers both days of the Fair. For those hoping to be discovered and win prizes, the adult and children’s talent shows will test the mettle of local music and variety acts at the venue. Organizers ask that adult talent show participants try to register in advance online to allow proper scheduling.
