WINCHESTER — The Winchester Heat have made history as their town’s first National Capital Baseball League champions.
Composed of local players, the Tier 4 men’s baseball team captured the championship when they bested the Bytown Bombers in a six-point series final, 6-0, earlier this week. It was the finale of quite a winning tear for the Winchester Heat, who went undefeated in their last 20 games, including their playoff run on the heels of a 12-game winning streak to complete the regular season. In just their third season within the NCBL, the Heat sizzled with a 16-3-1 record.
The Heat consecutively defeated the Fighting Irish 2 – 0 in games (in 4 point series) and the Knights 5 points to 1, before dispatching the Bombers.
Not to be confused with the Winchester Sox (a part of the NCBL since 2002 and now a Tier 1 team), the Winchester Heat will move up to Tier 3 next year.
