It’s giant puffball season

EASTERN ONTARIO — The scientific name is Calvatia gigantea, and for those in the know, it’s quite a treat when sliced and fried in butter while the flesh is white (before the big monster goes to spore). A decent crop of giant puffballs appears to be popping up in Eastern Ontario this season. Never, ever pick and consume wild fungi without proper training and instruction.
