South Dundas Council recognizes community leaders with Awards of Excellence during community breakfast

SOUTH DUNDAS — The South Dundas Council held a Community Breakfast this morning which featured guest speaker Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College and their inaugural Awards of Excellence presentation. 

Vollebregt spoke about the many changes that have over the years including the augmentation of enrolment especially the increase of international students. The group of colleges currently has over 14,000 students, which includes includes part-timers.  

“Right now international students make up about 20 percent, we would like to see that increase to about 30 percent,” said Vollebregt. 

The inaugural Awards of Excellence were presented to six deserving business leaders. The awards are aimed to recognize the success and dedication of local individuals and businesses who call South Dundas home. 

The 2019 recipients were: 

Business of the Year Award  — Ross Video Ltd.

Agriculture Leadership Award  — Nick Thurler, Thurler Farms Inc.

Community Builder Award — 100 Women Who Care About South Dundas

New Business Award — StoneCropAcres Winery & Vineyard

Tourism Award — Barbara Rabideau, Galop Canal Bluegrass Festival

Young Professional Award — Cole Veinotte, Jade Transportation

“Here in South Dundas we have a great community of successful people and businesses. It’s important that we take the time to recognize the people who are working to make South Dundas a vibrant business community,” said Mayor Steven Byvelds. “I would like to congratulate each of the award recipients and the other nominees, and I look forward to celebrating more local businesses and people in the future.” 

The Awards of Excellence will re-open for nominations in 2020.
