Winchester Heat success at Tier 4 National Capital Baseball League awards

OTTAWA — The Winchester Heat’s domination on the field this past season translated into a slew of Tier 4 awards at the National Capital Baseball League banquet last Friday night at Pine View Golf Course.

The Heat were celebrated with awards as the 2019 Pennant winners and 2019 Champions. The Heat’s Jake Byers captured the 2019 MVP and Best Batter awards, having set the Tier 4 record for hits and total bases in a season. Brayden Cochrane was recognized as the 2019 Playoff MVP and Best Pitcher.

Byers, Cochrane and Chris Embury were also named to the 2019 all-star team.

The Heat’s success came after playing only its third year in the league. Made up of all local players, the team ended the the 2019 regular season with a record of 16-3-1 at the tail end of a 12-game winning streak. Including the subsequent playoffs, the Heat sizzled by going undefeated in 20 games. The team graduates to Tier 3 next season.
