This season’s first significant accumulation of snow greets the region this morning

NATION VALLEY — The first real accumulation of snow to fall during the autumn/winter of 2019-2020 came down last night and this morning.

Plow trucks awoke from months of proverbial hibernation and emerged from municipal garages to sprinkle salt and grit.

The winter wonderland scenes are not so wonderful, however, for farmers still trying to harvest a lot of standing corn remaining in local fields.

Environment Canada forecasts 5 cm of snowfall today, ending later this afternoon, while the current wind-chill factor makes it feel like -8 C (although the actual temperature is slightly above freezing). Temperatures have also begun dipping significantly below freezing at night, dropping to -6 C tonight, -7 C tomorrow night and down into the negative double digits on nights early next week.
