Morewood’s Remembrance Day Service will be held on Monday, Nov. 11, 11 a.m. at the Cenotaph. This year is the 98th Anniversary of the July 6, 1921, unveiling of the Morewood Cenotaph, and it’s the 99th time that residents of the hamlet will gather at their monument for Nov. 11th ceremonies.
Morewood has been recognized as having one of the most prominent war memorials in rural Eastern Ontario. A Tuesday, July 6th, 2021 Sunset Rededication Ceremony is well into its early planning stage.
The Morewood Service has been held continuously since the early 1920s at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month.
The ceremony is organized by the Morewood Cenotaph Committee with the support of our local Veterans, CFS Leitrim, our local Firefighters, the Glengarry Highlanders, Chesterville Legion and the “Morewood Community” at large.
Canadian Armed Forces Personnel and a Cenotaph Vigil Guard from 3 Squadron, Canadian Forces Station (CFS) Leitrim will be joining us, along with the Cornwall-based SD&G Highlanders Colour Party and a Maxville Games piper.
The children from the Marionville French School will also be joining us and participating in our ceremony. At approximately 10:40 a.m., CFS Leitrim Military Personnel will begin forming-up at the Community Centre for a parade to the Cenotaph.
Veterans, RCMP, local fire fighters, school children and community members are invited to fall-in behind CFS Leitrim military personnel and parade with them to the Cenotaph, led by a Piper. Otherwise, please feel free to make your own way to the cenotaph in time for the 11 a.m. service.
Following the service, everyone is invited to the Community Centre for soup, chili sandwiches, refreshments and fellowship. This will provide us with an opportunity to personally meet with and express our indebtedness to Canadian Armed Forces personnel, RCMP officers and local veterans participating in our Remembrance Day Service.
Please join us in Remembering!
