Risk of nuisance flooding with expected rainfall this weekend, says SNC

NATION VALLEY — Exercise caution around creeks and rivers this weekend as forecasted rainfall may produce high water levels and possible nuisance flooding in low-lying areas, says South Nation Conservation in a statement issued today.

Environment Canada is calling for 20 to 30 mm of rain tomorrow, Dec. 14.

SNC points out that water levels across its jurisdiction are otherwise normal for this time of year, with soils currently saturated and partly frozen with minimal snow cover.

The anticipated swelling of local waterways could happen rapidly and cause slippery riverbanks. Parents are encouraged to explain these dangers to their children.

SNC monitors water levels and weather forecasts as part of its Flood Forecasting and Warning Program, providing updates as conditions change. The current statement is in effect until Tuesday, Dec. 17.
