SOUTH STORMONT — The Township of South Stormont Council approved the 2020 Municipal Budget on Wednesday, December 11. The budget represents a balanced approach to the increasing service requirements as a result of aging infrastructure, increasing/changing service mandates, downloading of services, and growth in the Township.

The approved budget, excluding water and wastewater services, allows the Township to implement a reasonable and affordable local tax rate increase of 3.99%, while proactively accomplishing tasks with a focus on the current and future needs within the Township.

Some key South Stormont capital projects for 2020 include:

  • Lakeside Drive
  • Dafoe Road Reconstruction
  • North Lunenburg Road West Culvert Replacement
  • Purchase of a Garbage Truck
  • Purchase of a Fire Truck
  • Arena and Playground Equipment Replacements
  • Service Delivery Review
  • Development Plans

For a South Stormont property assessed in 2019 at $208,650 (median residential property assessment in South Stormont, per MPAC):

  • If the assessment increases in 2020 by 1 percent, South Stormont’s tax rate results in an annual $46.85 increase over the 2019 property taxes.
