Lorraine Cleary

October 20, 1927 – December 28, 2019

Peacefully at Wellington House on December 28, in her 93rd year with Elgin at her side. Beloved wife for 63 years of Elgin Cleary. Loving mother of David (Jan Chapman), Douglas (Mary Whalen) and Paul (Sarah White). Very proud grandmother of Ian & Daniel (Jenine Young); Conor (Morgan Anna Reed), Bridget (Andrew deJong), Samuel (Kirsten Maitland), Fiona, & Aiden; Meagan (Helder Brum), Graham (Rhiannan Agostinho), & Aaron (Jeannine Wilson). Great grandmother of Oliver & Emmett Cleary-Brace, Ailbe Cleary-Brum, Jude & Alfie Agostinho-Cleary, and Ruthann Dejong.. Predeceased by parents Rev. Lloyd and Pearl Somerville, and stepmother Edna Somerville and dear sisters Marjorie and Dorothy Somerville. Lorraine graduated from Ottawa Civic Hospital Nursing School and was a Public Health Nurse and VON in Barrie before marrying Elgin and raising her family on the Cleary dairy farm in Spencerville. She was a very active member of the Spencerville United Church and local United Church Presbytery. She sold farm eggs, was called upon by neighbours for her nursing skills, was a wonderful baker, enjoyed reading, traveling, gardening and adored her grandchildren. She was a wonderful Gramma.

Friends may attend a visitation on the Cleary Family Farm, 3100 Goodin Rd, Spencerville on Friday, January 3, from 3 to 7 p.m. Receiving friends Saturday, January 4, from 10 – 11 a.m. at the Spencerville United Church, 16 Centre Street, with Funeral Service at 11 a.m., reception to follow.  In memory of Lorraine’s strong faith and her love of children, please consider donations to the Spencerville United Church P.O.
