CORNWALL — The United Counties of Stormont, Dundas and Glengarry has launched the 2020 edition of two grant programs aimed at supporting local businesses.

Funded by local taxpayers, the Regional Incentives Program and the Regional Tourism Grant Program strives to make it possible for local enterprise to “Stay, Discover, and Grow in SDG Countries,” the upper-tier municipal government says in a press release that repeats the marketing name of the first program.

Regional Incentive Program

With $250,000 in funds available the Stay Discover Grow Regional Incentives Program offers support to local businesses/non-profits/community groups, covering up to 50 percent of eligible costs to a maximum of $50,000 per property, per year.

Numerous grant streams are available including façade, signage and property improvement, and trail improvement grants. Organizations qualify if they meet certain criteria and are in SDG. (Visit SDGCounties.ca/stay-discover-grow to download application forms.) Two intakes are planned 2020; deadline for the first round is February 21st, 2020 at noon. The second intake is expected in late spring/early summer, according to the Counties.

SDG Regional Tourism Grant (RTG)

The Regional Tourism Grant is offering $25,000 in assistance to the tourism sector — recognizing that “at times, community organizations and visitor destinations across SDG require financial assistance to develop, expand or continue special projects.” Grants will be awarded in sums as low as $2,500 to a maximum of $5,000. The RTG can be used to augment marketing efforts, improve new or existing events, with the overall goal of increasing the visibility of region within and beyond SDG’s borders. (Visit SDGCounties.ca/tourism/grants to download applications.) Only one RTG intake is planned for 2020. Deadline for submission is Feb. 28, 2020, at noon.
