Higher than normal water levels possible throughout South Nation watershed with expected precipitation

FINCH — South Nation Conservation is drawing attention to the likelihood of higher than normal water levels throughout the watershed in light of an anticipated 15 to 30 mm of precipitation and above-freezing temperatures this weekend.

The forecasted mix of ice and snow is supposed to begin tonight and continue into Saturday, Jan. 11.

Soils are frozen and there is an average amount of snow cover across the jurisdiction, but melting is expected should the mercury rise to the forecasted levels.

Consequently, SNC advises residents to exercise caution when near watercourses as flows may rapidly increase and cause slippery banks. Parents are encouraged to explain these dangers to their children.

The SNC statement is in effect until Tuesday, Jan. 14.
