SOUTH MOUNTAIN — Scotiabank officials will explain the impending closure of the South Mountain branch at a public meeting scheduled Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the community Ag Hall.
The session runs 6 to 8 p.m.
Banks will often organize a public meeting after deciding to close a branch. A more recent example occurred in Avonmore, where residents filled North Stormont Place in February 2013 in advance of Scotiabank’s pullout from that village the following year.
In South Mountain’s case, Scotiabank informed clientele last month that it intends to close the branch effective June 18, 2020.
Local resident resident Theresa Bergeron has launched a ‘Keep our bank open’ petition at change.org (visit tinyurl.com/savescotia) The online effort alone has garnered over 482 signatures to date.
