A Makeover for the Spirit

WINCHESTER — When a woman with cancer feels good about herself, she will be empowered to face her illness with greater confidence. That’s the core belief behind Look Good Feel Better (LGFB). Winchester District Memorial Hospital (WDMH) is pleased to share that the supportive care program is coming back to Winchester.

At the heart of Look Good Feel Better is the free, two-hour hands-on workshop. It brings together women with all types of cancer in a safe and supportive environment where they benefit from shared experiences. They learn about skin care, cosmetic hygiene, tips and techniques as well as hair alternatives – from LGFB volunteers with a background in the cosmetic industry. Every woman who attends receives a complimentary gift of skin care and cosmetic products.

There will be five Look Good Feel Better sessions at WDMH in 2020. The dates are February 26, April 22, June 24, September 23 and November 25 from 6 to 8 p.m. The sessions are open to women who have been diagnosed with any type of cancer. For more information and to register for a workshop, visit www.lgfb.ca or call 1-800-914-5665.

“We want to help women face cancer with confidence,” explains Michelle Renaud, WDMH’s Cancer Coach. “It’s wonderful to see these women taking a little time for themselves during a difficult time in their lives. Our thanks to Janice Casselman and her amazing team of volunteers for leading the sessions.”

Look Good Feel Better is just one of the many ways that WDMH supports local women facing cancer.  Last year, more than 2,600 cancer visits took place at WDMH. The Women’s Breast Care program offers initial screening, diagnosis and treatment – all in one location. Cancer is a scary word and the journey is a complicated one. WDMH is proud to be there offering compassionate care close to home.
