80-year-old man suffers life-threatening injuries in South Dundas fire

MORRISBURG — An 80-year-old man sustained life-threatening injuries in a house fire early this morning in South Dundas.

Officials with the Ontario Fire Marshall (OFM), assisted by SD&G OPP officers and the detachment crime unit, are investigating the St. Lawrence Street blaze.

First responders were called to the scene around 3:20 a.m., “with information that a person inside the structure,” says the SD&G OPP.

The man managed to escape the burning building with the assistance of neighbours and was transported to hospital.

South Dundas Fire Department members attended the scene to extinguish the fire.

Update: Police have confirmed that the man has succumbed to his injuries and that his death is not considered suspicious.
