Charges laid regarding theft, impaired driving, and assault

Customer charged with theft

Russell County OPP officers responded to a shoplifting complaint on February 11, shortly before 4 p.m. at a local store on Richelieu St. in Rockland.

During the investigation, it was revealed that numerous items had been stolen and a quantity of illegal drugs was seized.

Martin Gaetan Lucien Renaud, 30, of Rockland was charged with:

  • Two counts of Theft Under $5000 – Shoplifting Criminal Code (CC) 334(b) and
  • Poss of a Schedule I Substance – Cocaine Controlled Drugs Substances Act (CDSA) 4(1) 

The accused is scheduled to appear in L’Orignal court on March 11.

 

Motor vehicle collision leads to impaired charges

Russell County OPP officers responded to a motor vehicle collision on Rocky Hill Rd. in St. Albert around 8:30 p.m. on February 14.

During the investigation, the officer utilized an Approved Screening Device (ASD). The individual was transported back to the detachment for further testing.

 As a result of the investigation, Rene Daoust, 37, of Limoges, was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus) CC 320.14(1)(b);
  • Fail to remain Highway Traffic Act (HTA) 200(1)(a) and
  • Careless driving HTA 130(1)

The accused is scheduled to appear in L’Orignal court on March 11.

 

Dispute leads to assault charges

Russell County OPP officers responded to a disturbance on Principale St. in Casselman, shortly after 12 p.m. on February 16.

The investigation revealed that an altercation occurred between three adults.

 As a result of the investigation, Andrew Vontobel, 45, from Casselman was charged with:

  • Two counts of Assault CC 266
  • Resist Peace Officer CC 129(a­) 

The accused is scheduled to appear in L’Orignal court on April 1.
