Police officer assaulted, multiple car thefts, weapons charges laid

Police officer assaulted

NORTH GLENGARRY — SD&G OPP received a report of a suspicious person inside a business shortly after 7 p.m. on April 9, on County Road 20, North Glengarry. 

Investigation indicated that an unwanted adult was in the business being aggressive with staff. The adult was located a short distance away. Once in custody the accused assaulted an officer.

Melissa Powers, 33, of Smiths Falls, was arrested and is charged with;

– Assault a Peace officer

– Being intoxicated in a public place (Liquor Licence Act)

– Engage in prohibited activity on premises (Trespass to property Act)

The accused was released from custody pending a court appearance in Cornwall on June 25. 

Domestic – mischief

SOUTH STORMONT — A domestic situation occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m. on April 9, in South Stormont.  

Police investigation revealed that an adult accused had caused damage to the residence and was breaching previous release conditions.

A 37-year-old accused of South Stormont, was arrested and is charged with;

– Mischief

– Fail to comply with conditions of a probation order

The accused was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in Cornwall on June 9.

 

Stolen cars

NORTH DUNDAS — SD&G OPP responded to a report of a stolen vehicle from a Joseph St. residence in Chesterville shortly before 4 p.m. on April 11.

Investigation indicated that sometime overnight a 2006 White Pontiac Grand Prix (plated- Ontario -CEZW 438) was removed from the property.

An investigation continues.

SOUTH STORMONT — SD&G OPP responded to a report of a car theft from a residence on Beaver Dam Drive, South Stormont, shortly after 11 a.m. on April 13. 

Investigation indicated that sometime overnight April 12-13, 2020, a 2009 Dark blue Chevrolet Impala (plated- Ontario -CHFN 562) was removed from the property.

An investigation continues.

 

Weapons charges laid 

SOUTH GLENGARRY — While conducting a traffic stop April 12 on Highway 401 SD&G OPP officers stopped a vehicle shortly after midnight travelling 131 km/hr in the 100 km zone in South Glengarry. 

After investigation officers arrested the male passenger as he was in breach of previous release conditions and the passenger was also in possession of pepper spray.

Reda Khadir, 19, of Montreal, was located and arrested and is charged with;

–             Three counts of Failure to comply with conditions of a undertaking

–             Two counts of Failure to comply with conditions of a probation order 

–             Concealed prohibited device or ammunition

–             Possess of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order

–             Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon

The 19-year-old driver of Montreal, was charged for speeding (Highway Traffic Act)

The accused passenger was released from custody and is scheduled to a court appearance in Alexandria July 8.

 

Super speeders

(SD&G) – SD&G OPP officers were conducting speed traps April 9 through 12, and intercepted the following vehicles for traveling at excessive speeds. The vehicles were impounded and their driver’s permits seized for seven days in accordance to policy and were charged with Stunt Driving (Highway Traffic Act).

SOUTH GLENGARRY — A 26-year-old driver from Waterloo was stopped traveling 160 km/h in a zone 100km/hr zone on Hwy. 401 shortly after noon on April 9.

SOUTH DUNDAS — A 24-year-old driver from North York was stopped traveling 163 km/hr in a 100km/hr on Hwy. 401 shortly after 6:30 a.m. in South Dundas. The driver was also suspended.

SOUTH GLENGARRY — A 26-year-old driver from Quebec was stopped shortly after 7 a.m.on  April 12, traveling 160km/h in a 100km/h zone on Highway 401, in South Glengarry.
