SOUTH MOUNTAIN — The COVID-19 pandemic has claimed another popular annual event.
The North Dundas Lions Clubs have collectively made the decision to cancel this year’s Canada Day celebrations in South Mountain.
Organizers say that it was not an easy decision but that it was made in everyone’s best interest.
“It is with deepest regret that we have to announce that the Mountain Township and District Lions, The Chesterville Lions Club and all the supporting community groups will not be putting on a Canada Day Celebration in South Mountain this year. This decision was not made lightly, but was made with keeping everyone’s safety in mind during this COVID-19 pandemic. At this time we would like to thank the business community and the community at large for their past support and look forward to seeing you at a bigger and better celebration in 2021.”
This announcement comes less than two weeks after Ottawa announced the cancellation of the national Canada Day bash.
