OTTAWA — A 30-year-old male was charged with animal abuse early yesterday morning after Ottawa Police received complaints.

Police responded to a call about someone causing harm to an animal in the 1-100 block of Carruthers Avenue.

Around 12:30 a.m. on April 29, police attended a residence where a man was seen purposefully harming a cat. Officers located the man, as they attempted to arrest him; he kicked one of the officers. The suspect was arrested without further incident. The officer did not sustain serious injury.

The cat was located and its wellbeing was assessed by officers on scene. The Provincial Inspectors that enforce the Provincial Animal Welfare Services (PAWS) Act will also conduct an investigation. It was determined that the cat did not sustain serious injury.

The Ottawa Police Central Criminal Investigations Unit has charged Patrick Robert Adam, 30, of Ottawa with:

  •       Causing unnecessary suffering to an animal
  •       Assault a Peace Officer

He was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
