Four young women charged for allegedly assaulting employee who asked them to practice social distancing

OTTAWA – Four females entered a business in the 1000 block of Merivale Road, shortly after 7 p.m. on April 30. When an employee asked them to respect physical distancing, the females started to kick and punch the employee. The females then took items from the store and threw them at the employee continuing the assault. One of the females took the employee’s cell phone and later smashed it on the ground. The employee suffered minor injuries.

The suspects fled the area, but responding officers located all four female suspects and arrested them without incident.

The Ottawa Police Central Criminal Investigations Unit has jointly charged Melina Camille Cere, age 20 and Bagap Olami, 18, a 15-year-old female and 14-year-old female, all of Ottawa with:

  •       Assault
  •       Assault with a weapon
  •       Causing a disturbance

Cere has also been charged with:

  •        Two counts of Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
  •       Theft under $5000
  •       Mischief under $5000
  •       Possession of Property Obtained by Crime
  •       Possession for the Purpose of selling Cannabis
  •       Possession for the Purpose of Distributing Cannabis

Both young offenders were also charged one count each of Failure to comply with Undertaking.

All four were scheduled to appear in Show Cause court on Friday.
