OTTAWA — The veteran weatherman won’t be returning to air after announcing his retirement from CTV’s supper hour news broadcast today.
Part of the daily newscast for 34 years — though missing for the past while — J.J. Clarke cites his health as the reason for his decision to step away from the meteorological screen.
Clarke was also absent from the studio for six months in 2018, reappearing in mid-October that year.
The deep-voiced broadcaster is also known for his hosting of the popular local variety show Homegrown Café during the halcyon days of the Ottawa station when it was still known as CJOH.
On behalf of your many longtime viewers in Stormont-Dundas-South Glengarry, thank you @JJCTV for your kindness, professionalism & smiling personality on our TVs for so many years. We wish you well in your health challenges & all the best on your well deserved retirement! 1/ pic.twitter.com/DeySWrMWL3
