OTTAWA — Ottawa Police East Criminal Investigations Unit charged a man today in relation to an incident that occurred on May 14 on Montreal Road.
Shortly before 12 a.m. an officer stopped a vehicle for a Highway Traffic Offence. As the officer was speaking with the driver, the driver sped away, dragging the officer for half a kilometer, at which point the officer was thrown off the vehicle.
The vehicle sped away. The officer suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.
East Criminal Investigators identified the driver as also being involved in an incident on March 18, where a man drove a vehicle into a park bench – causing damage – abandoned the vehicle and reported it stolen.
The suspect was arrested in Ottawa without incident yesterday afternoon.
Bradley Desgens, 36, of Ottawa is charged with:
- Assaulting a Peace Officer with a weapon
- Assault on a Peace Officer Causing Bodily Harm
- Dangerous Operation of a motor vehicle Cause Bodily Harm
- Obstruction of Justice
- Unlawful possession of a Schedule I Substance
He was also charged with Public Mischief in relation to the March 18 incident.
He is scheduled to appear in court today.
