NORTH STORMONT — A motorist is in hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries after a single-vehicle collision on Highway 417 in North Stormont this morning.

Police say the involved passenger vehicle was eastbound between Highway 138 and County Rd. 20, shortly after 7:35 a.m., when it left the roadway, struck an overpass pillar and entered the south ditch.

The 55-year-old driver and lone occupant of the vehicle was taken from the scene by air ambulance, says the SD&G OPP, which has been investigating with the assistance of OPP Traffic Collision Investigators. Police have not indicated the driver’s gender.

A section of Highway 417 eastbound at Highway 138 was closed to traffic at Casselman with detours in place but has since reopened.
