First ‘barn quilt’ goes up in project spearheaded by Osgoode Township Museum

Above, Cheryl Cooper and husband Hugh McEwen have become first on the wall with a barn quilt at their Heather Crest Farm, part of a new project coordinated by Osgoode Township Museum, which to date has nine registrations. In designing and making the piece, Cheryl started with the traditional eight-point fabric quilt design and added special colours representing tartans on both sides of the family and even the heather the farm is named for. The couple used a neighbour’s Skyjack to hoist up the heavy panels, fully aware of what a dangerous undertaking it can be;  in May, a Renfrew County farmer died after falling from a bucket while trying to install a similar piece.
