Driver hits trailer, injuring child; disqualified driver caught on Highway 138

SOUTH STORMONT — A three-year-old boy suffered serious injuries yesterday after a driver collided with the front end of a parked vehicle, causing an attached trailer to strike the child who was taken to hospital, according to the SD&G OPP.

Officers responded to the scene at a Cornwall Centre Road business shortly before 1:45 p.m.

“The accused struck a parked truck with a trailer attached,” says SD&G OPP Const. Tylor Copeland. “The child was standing near the trailer and then the trailer hit him.”

The detachment reports the arrest of Cornwall resident Scott McConkey, 59, on a Criminal Code charge of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

He was released to appear Dec. 29 in Cornwall court.

Slew of charges for disqualified driver caught on 138

NORTH STORMONT — SD&G OPP officers and community street crime officers stopped a vehicle Nov. 4 on Highway 138, leading to the arrest of a driver who wasn’t permitted behind the wheel.

The detachment reports pulling the vehicle over shortly before 11:25 a.m in North Stormont. The motorist turned out to be disqualified because of previous driving-related offences. He was also in contravention of previous release conditions.

The SD&G OPP says Daniel Cook, 34, of Cornwall, is charged under the Criminal Code with Operation while prohibited plus two counts of failing to comply with conditions of a probation order. He’s also charged under the Highway Traffic Act for using plates not authorized, driving while under suspension and operating a motor vehicle without insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

The accused was released to appear Dec. 31 in Cornwall court.

Charged with impaired in North Glengarry

NORTH GLENGARRY — A single-vehicle collision Nov. 5 on County Rd. 43 led to impaired driving-related charges for the teenaged motorist behind the wheel.

SD&G OPP officers responded to the scene shorty after 10:30 p.m. Further Investigation revealed the driver to be under the influence of alcohol, according to the detachment, which reports the arrest of Gwendal Rimbaud, 18, of North Glengarry.

The accused was released to appear Dec. 2 in Alexandria court.

Charged with impaired in South Stormont

SOUTH STORMONT — A Nov. 6 RIDE check on County Rd. 2 turned up a motorist allegedly under the influence of alcohol and now facing impaired driving charges.

The SD&G OPP reports that Rudy Vanbeilen, 25, of South Dundas, was arrested after entering the RIDE check shortly before 10:30 p.m.

He was released to appear Dec. 31 in Cornwall court.
