NORTH STORMONT — Organizers of the Touch of Christmas Porch Tour announced this week on their Facebook page that they’ve collected $7,209.80 in donations from this year’s event.

Among the generous donors were GFL Environmental, Treats & Treasures Gift Shop, and many other businesses and members of the community. The full amount will be given to the Avonmore Kids Park Project. Additionally, volunteers amassed an incredible 616 pounds of food for the Community Food Share food bank in Winchester.

Organizers took to social media afterwards to thank everyone for participating, for buying tickets, and for donating.

“Thank you to all who decorated, donated and drove around. Thank you to the businesses who participated and donated and to the folks who donated anonymously.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the Porch team; Nancy Wert, Adelle and Steve Densham and Erin Hopkins.”

Because of the pandemic, the porch tour was held in place of the usual Christmas house tour — a convivial occasion in which those on the tour enter local homes decorated for the season. This year, participants were limited to viewing decorated porches.
