Nearly $33,000 raised for cancer research and cancer care through ‘Gala 2.0 Home for the Holidays’

A Sisters for Life Relay Team initiative

BERWICK — Maureen Robertson (left) of the North Stormont-area Sisters for Life Relay Team presents equal cheques of $16,494 to Canadian Cancer Society Ontario Director Doug Kane (above) and Winchester District Memorial Hospital Foundation representative Cindy Ault Peters (below).

The sums represent the combined proceeds of the Sisters’ Nov. 20 annual Christmas Gala. Despite the challenges of the pandemic, the 2020 edition — an all-virtual affair billed as ‘Gala 2.0 Home for the Holidays‘ — raised a record $32,988, which was split between both recipient charities. The socially distanced handover occurred Dec. 11 at the Sisters’ Berwick-area ‘depot’ location.

Since coming together in 2013, the passionate and determined group of volunteers have raised about $160,000 for cancer-related causes — including this year’s total.
