Tree-tops chopped; cocaine seized; charges after Chesterville pool damaged; an eventful December for the SD&G OPP

SOUTH GLENGARRY — The SD&G OPP are investigating a rather strange incident occurring Dec. 10 on County Road 2, around 9 a.m. The incident involved an unknown individual arriving at the address and cutting the tops off of thirteen spruce trees there. 

Police are asking for anyone with information pertaining to this incident to call 1-888-310-1122, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Theft at North Stormont school

NORTH STORMONT— At 2:30 p.m. on December 15th, provincial police received a call about a theft from a local school. Upon arrival, police found the responsible party, a 15-year-old, who allegedly stole a jacket and a phone. 

Charged with theft, the teen will appear Jan. 21 in Cornwall court.  

Charges after Chesterville pool damaged

SOUTH GLENGARRY — North Dundas resident Brandon Edwards, 28, was arrested by the SD&G OPP after they received a report about an individual causing damage to a pool on Main Street in Chesterville. The incident took place on December 17th, shortly after 2 p.m. 

Edwards is charged with mischief under $5,000, and failure to comply with the conditions of a probation order, according to the detachment. The accused appeared in Cornwall court the following day.

South Glengarry break-in

SOUTH GLENGARRY — Police are asking the public for information about a break-in that occurred on Cannon Street in South Glengarry on December 18th, shortly before 2:30 a.m. An unidentified individual entered the store and took large quantities of watches and jewellery. If you have information pertaining to this incident, please call 1-888-310-1122, or report anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.

Impaired charges in Morewood

NORTH GLENGARRY — A RIDE stop conducted by the SD&G OPP in Morewood on December 20 at 1 a.m. resulted in the arrest of 27-year-old Tyler McLachlan of Russell. Police say that, upon investigation, he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC – sec.320.14(1)(a)
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus CC – sec 320.14(1)(b)

The accused will appear in the Cornwall Court of Justice on January 16th, 2021.

 Impaired driver found to have cocaine

NORTH GLENGARRY — Also on December 20th at 1 a.m. in North Glengarry, SD&G OPP received a traffic complaint on Highway 417. Shortly after, they discovered the individual who had been identified in the call. He is Joshua Davidson, 39, from Ottawa.

Police say that, upon investigation, the driver was discovered to be not only under the influence of alcohol, but also in possession of a sizeable amount of cocaine. The cocaine was seized and Davidson was charged with the following:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC – sec.320.14(1)(a)

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus CC – sec 320.14(1)(b)

• Possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine – CDSA – 5(2)

The accused is due Feb. 6 in court. 

Driver of stolen Lexus apprehended

SOUTH GLENGARRY — SD&G OPP found themselves in pursuit of a suspect driving a stolen vehicle on December 20th at 7:46 a.m.. The vehicle was a Gold 2020 Lexus GX6 SUV, reported stolen from Toronto.

At first, the motorist allegedly ignored the police’s requests for him to stop the vehicle and continued driving recklessly. However, he eventually stopped the car and fled on foot, only to be arrested shortly after. Charged is Jean Briere, 34, from Montreal, with: 

• Possession of property obtained by crime over $5000 CC – sec. 354(1)(a)

• Possession of break-in instruments CC Sec. 351(1)

• Dangerous operation CC Sec. 320.13(1)

• Flight from peace officer Sec 320.17

Briere appeared the following day (December 21st) in Cornwall court.

Morrisburg impaired charges

SOUTH DUNDAS — A traffic complaint on Fifth Street in Morrisburg on December 20th, shortly after 10 p.m., resulted in the arrest of 51-year-old Gerald Marratt. The provincial police investigated the driver and found that he was under the influence of alcohol while operating a vehicle. He was subsequently charged with:

• Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs CC – sec.320.14(1)(a)

• Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration 80 plus CC – sec 320.14(1)(b)

Marratt is scheduled to appear at the Cornwall Court of Justice on March 2nd, 2021.
