One snowmobiler dead, another critically injured in separate SDG incidents this weekend

SDG — A 44-year-old man was killed Saturday and a 20-year-old man was sent to hospital with critical injuries Sunday in separate collisions involving snowmobiles and passenger vehicles.

The SD&G OPP responded shortly after 2 p.m. to Saturday’s incident on County Rd. 2, Ingleside, South Stormont, where the 44-year-old snowmobile driver was struck by an eastbound passenger vehicle as he entered the roadway. The South Stormont resident was pronounced deceased at the scene, according to the detachment. The driver and passenger of the passenger vehicle were uninjured.

Police later identified the deceased as Yanick Tremblay (as of Jan. 25). Detours were put in place on the county road between Dickinson and Killarney roads as the detachment investigated.

The latest crash occurred today shortly before 3 p.m. on County Rd. 43, Alexandria, North Glengarry, where the 20-year-old snowmobile driver was struck by a passenger vehicle upon entering the roadway. Critically injured, he was transported to hospital, as was his 20-year-old female passenger who sustained non-life-threatening injuries, according to the detachment. The driver of the passenger vehicle was uninjured.

As the investigation continues, detours are in place on County Road 2 between Dickinson Road and Killarney Road.

OPP Traffic Collision Investigators are assisting the local detachment in their examination of both crashes.

This article was updated Jan. 25 to include the deceased snowmobiler’s name following the release of his identity by police.
