Public’s help sought after snowmobile reported going through ice on St. Lawrence River

SOUTH GLENGARRY — Police are seeking the public’s assistance after a concerned citizen witnessed a snowmobile falling through the ice on the St. Lawrence River near Bainsville last night (Jan 30.)

The incident was reported to the SD&G OPP shortly after 9 p.m. Officers with the detachment and Emergency Response Team attended the location but couldn’t locate the machine or driver. They also used a drone to observe the area.

The detachment wants to hear from anyone who may have observed the snowmobile out on the ice, anyone who was on the ice and has returned home safely, or has someone from their household that is overdue from returning.
