SOUTH STORMONT — A 27-year-old man died yesterday afternoon after being struck by a tractor trailer on Highway 401.
For reasons still under investigation, the man was on foot — described by police as a pedestrian — when he entered the eastbound lanes shortly before 3 p.m., according to the SD&G OPP.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
Detours around a section of the highway have been put in place through South Stormont, with the closure in effect at the Dickinson Drive Ingleside eastbound exit. The time of reopening is not yet known, according to the detachment.
OPP Traffic Collision Investigators (TCI) continue their examination of the site with the assistance of local officers.
