March 26 deadline to apply to United Way/Centraide SDG funding program

CORNWALL —  The United Way/Centraide SDG says it’s accepting applications for the 2021 community investment fund.

In 2020, the organization disbursed $337,786 from the fund to support 16 local agencies and 22 programs, which included services such as  counselling, mentorship, education and informational helplines.

It was an unprecedented year “where our ways of helping  people were challenged by the pandemic,” says the organization. “Not only did restrictions make servicing our  community tougher, but more people needed help than ever before.”

The deadline to apply for 2021 funding is Friday, March 26, 2021.

United Way/Centraide SDG funds a range of health and social services in three community impact areas: helping kids be all they can be, moving people from poverty to possibility, and building strong and healthy communities.

Including COVID-19 relief money that flowed through the organization last year, United Way/Centraide SDG spent just over $1.22-million on causes in Cornwall, the Counties and Akwesasne in 2020.

“Our work over the past year has proven to us the importance of working collaboratively with  many community stakeholders and ensuring we do the work to reach every corner of our vast  region to help out the most vulnerable regardless of where they live. In this year’s allocation  process, we will be considering new applicants that will help us grow our impact across SDGCA as well as look at how we can help our traditional member agencies best meet the growing  needs of our community’s most vulnerable,” said Juliette Labossière, Executive Director of United Way/Centraide SDG.

The 2021 Community Investment Fund aims to address the long-term economic, social, and health needs of the community, to reduce poverty as well as address the short- and long-term impacts from COVID-19.

The organization is also looking for individuals to be part of the 2021 Allocations Committee and help make those decisions. To be eligible, they (or a family member) must not be an employee, volunteer, or sit on the board of directors at an agency that intends to apply for funding. Committee membership involves a three-hour weekly commitment throughout April. Those interested bay email a resume and cover  letter to admin@unitedwaysdg.com by March 22.
