SD&G OPP investigating multiple break-ins and thefts

NORTH DUNDAS — An investigation is underway by the SD&G OPP concerning a break-in at a business on Sandy Row Road in North Dundas Township. The incident occurred on March 21st, shortly after 11:30 PM. The culprit, who is currently unknown, entered the business and removed Canadian currency, a Dewalt Sawzall, and a Dewalt reciprocating saw.

Armed robbery at Mckewan Gas leads to charges

NORTH GLENGARRY — On March 26th, at approximately 9:38 PM, officers from the SD&G detachment of the OPP responded to a call about an armed robbery in progress at Mckewan Gas in Alexandria. Initial investigation determined that the suspect had entered the business and demanded cash while claiming to have a firearm. The suspect fled from the scene in a vehicle but was later apprehended by police on County Road 34 after driving into a ditch.

Police discovered multiple stolen items, including a firearm, within the vehicle, which was itself stolen. As a result, 20-year-old Taylor Baron from South Glengarry was arrested and charged with:

  • Robbery with violence
  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
  • Break and enter
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Fail to comply with undertaking
  • Possession of Property obtained by crime Under $5000
  • Dangerous Operation
  • Flight from Peace officer
  • Driving with No licence

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall on March 27th.

An investigation continues into the theft of a pick-up truck

SOUTH DUNDAS — On March 24th, shortly before 3:08 PM, officers from the SD&G OPP responded to a call about the theft of a pick up struck on Main Street in North Dundas. Initial investigation determined that an unknown individual had come onto the property sometime between 9 AM and 1 PM and removed a Black 2019 Ford F250 truck with plate BARCLAY1 attached.

North York man charged with impaired driving

SOUTH GLENGARRY — On March 21st, an officer from the SD&G detachment of the OPP intercepted a vehicle on Highway 401 for a traffic violation. As a result of the investigation, the driver, 43-year-old Albornoz Espinosa from North York, who was also wanted by Peel Regional Police, was arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – over 80 milligrams
  • Speeding

OPP are reminding the public that a 90-day automatic driver’s licence suspension and a seven-day impoundment of your vehicle accompanies any impaired driving charge. If you suspect a driver is impaired, call 911. You could be responsible for saving a life.

Driver charged with impaired following collision

NORTH DUNDAS — A two-vehicle collision on County Road 3, North Dundas Township, shortly before 8:00 PM on March 28th resulted in the arrest of local man Nathan Arsenault. He was charged with:

  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams

Arsenault is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Morrisburg on June 1st. The OPP reminds motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol. Use a designated driver, cab, public transit, or stay overnight. Any amount of alcohol or drugs can impact your ability to make sound judgements.

OPP conducts speed measuring enforcement in SD&G

SD&G — On March 24th and 25th, SD&G Ontario Provincial Police officers conducted speed measuring enforcement on roadways across SD&G. The following vehicles were intercepted for travelling at excessive speeds. On March 24th, a 23-year-old female driver from Laval was stopped on Highway 401, allegedly having driven at 164km/h in a 100km/h zone. She was charged with stunt driving.

On March 25th, a 17-year-old male driver from Cornwall was pulled over on County Road 18 for travelling at 142km/hr in an 80km/hr zone. He was also charged with stunt driving.

Charges laid in sexual assault

SOUTH STORMONT — As a result of a sexual assault investigation conducted by members of the SD&G provincial police, a 16-year-old resident of South Stormont was arrested on March 27th. The individual was charged with:

  • Sexual Assault on a Person under 16 years of age
  • Sexual Assault causing bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle
  • Assault

The accused was released and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Cornwall court on May 11th. The name of the accused is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.

Charges laid in sexual assault

NORTH DUNDAS — Following a joint investigating by the SD&G OPP and the crime unit, a 70-year-old man was arrested on March 22nd in connection with a historical sexual assault on a minor. To protect the identity of the victim, the name of the accused will not be revealed to the public.

The man was charged with:

  • Two counts of Sexual Assault on a Person under 16 years of age
  • Two counts of Sexual Interference

The accused was held for a bail hearing and is to appear at the Cornwall Court on May 4th
