Matthew Ernest Albert “Tim” Turney (1926 – 2021)

Matthew Ernest Albert Turney, known as “Tim,” passed away on April 17, 2021, at the age of 94 years in Winchester, Ontario. Tim was predeceased by his wife, Anna Marie Turney (Cuming), two brothers, Elmer and Kenny and three sisters Elsie, Eva, and Lucille. He is lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his four children, Tim Turney and his partner Gerald Petkau, Colleen Hull and her husband Larry Hull, Ed Turney, Andrew Turney and his wife Lorilynn Turney and their children Keziah and Zoey.

Tim Turney was born in Dalesville, Quebec on November 4th, 1926. In the late 1940s, he worked in a lumber camp before heading to Ottawa to apprentice in carpentry. In the 1950s, he began carpentry around Hamilton, Ontario where he met and married his wife, Anna. In the early 1960s, he worked upon the DEW Line in the Arctic. In the 1980s, after Anna’s passing, he moved to Maxville and was most recently living in Winchester, Ontario.

He was passionate about carpentry and skilled at creating anything out of wood. He was someone who loved talking with people and had friends in abundance. He will fondly be remembered for the many poems he wrote for friends, commemorating everyday events and special occasions. A couple of his poems won awards and one was posted on the Facebook page of CP Rail. He was a proud Canadian and loved his country.

The family wishes to sincerely thank those who cared for him with dignity and respect while at the Dundas Manor Nursing Home. A private graveside service family will take place with the Kitching, Steepe & Ludwig funeral home at Woodland Cemetery, Burlington, Ontario.
