Further details released in fatal 401 crash in South Stormont; dash cam footage sought

SOUTH STORMONT — A 64-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman, both from Brampton, died in that Highway 401 crash last week in South Stormont. The May 13 single-vehicle collision also sent a 46-year-old Brampton man to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The westbound vehicle became engulfed in flames after hitting a culvert in the ditch between Boundary Rd. and McDonnell Avenue, according to the SD&G OPP, which continues to investigate the crash occurring shortly before 4:30 p.m.

Names of the deceased, who were declared dead at the scene, have not been released yet pending notification of next of kin.

A section of highway remained closed until midnight as investigators worked to establish what happened.
