Late Ross Casselman laid to rest as firefighting colleagues pay tribute

GRANTLEY — The remains of the late Ross Casselman, former Chesterville fire chief and longtime North Dundas firefighter, arrived at the Grantley Cemetery this morning via the 1953 Chesterville pumper truck. His firefighting colleagues saluted as they served in an honour guard at the graveside ceremony following the funeral for Casselman, who died June 24 at the age of 89.

A 1995 modern pumper truck — whose purchase Casselman oversaw in his chief’s capacity with the former Village of Chesterville — also made a special roadside appearance. It was loaned for the occasion by the current private owner of that machine (which the township replaced some time ago).
