Driver of truck stolen in Morrisburg apprehended after hitting two police vehicles

MORRISBURG — A 20-year-old Navan man faces a number of charges after a motorist struck two police vehicles while fleeing from the SD&G OPP in a stolen pickup truck.

The incident unfolded shortly after 6 p.m. on Oct. 13th as  officers with the regular force as well as the Community Street Crime Unit arrived at Carraway Crescent to investigate the theft of a vehicle.

Police say the involved vehicle failed to comply with a request to stop and drove away “recklessly,” also “making contact” with two police vehicles before fleeing the area. Police followed the pickup to an ATV trail, where the male driver was arrested a short distance into the trail.

No injuries occurred to the accused, civilians or officers, and the SD&G OPP has expressed a “heartfelt thank you to the many residents of Carraway Crescent in Morrisburg following this incident. The genuine concern and care shown to the officers at the location did not go unnoticed. They were truly empathetic to the officers and their thoughtfulness, assistance, and dedication to betterment of their neighbourhood is a hallmark of community support.”

The detachment reports the arrest of Brendon Charbonneau, 20, of Navan. He’s charged with:

•            Criminal Code 320.17 – Flight from peace officer

•           CC 354(1)(a) – Possession Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000

•             CC 267(a) – Assault with a weapon – two counts

•             CC 334(b) – Theft under $5000

•             CC 320.13(1) – Dangerous operation

•             CC 145(5)(a) – Fail to comply with release order

•             CC 733.1(1) – Fail to comply with probation order – six counts

•             Highway Traffic Act – Drive – No licence – two counts

•             HTA – 12(1)(d) – Use plates not authorized – two counts

The accused was held in custody to appear Oct. 14 in Cornwall court.

Stolen motorcycle

SOUTH DUNDAS — On Oct. 2, 2021, shortly after 9 a.m., Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a motorcycle being taken from a property on Lakeshore Drive, South Dundas Township.

Investigation indicated that sometime in the previous days unknown individuals attended a residence and removed a Black 2018 Suzuki SAA with Ontario plate 9M0D6 attached. An investigation continues.

Stolen car

SOUTH GLENGARRY — On Oct. 13, shortly after 4 p.m, Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of a car being taken from a property on 165th Avenue, South Glengarry Township.

Investigation indicated that sometime in the previous days unknown individuals attended a business and removed a Silver Subaru Impreza with Ontario plate CHWY 736 attached.

An investigation continues.

Domestic – Assault with a Weapon Charges Laid

NORTH GLENGARRY — On Oct. 12, shortly after 2 p.m Stormont Dundas & Glengarry Ontario Provincial Police officers responded to a report of domestic situation in North Glengarry Township. Investigation revealed that a female accused had struck her partner with a weapon.

A 21-year-old woman kf North Glengarry was arrested and is charged with assault with a weapon.

The name of the accused is being withheld in order to protect the identity of the victim.

She was released from custody to appear Dec. 7 in Cornwall court.
